7 Things you probably don’t know about Karma
Not a week goes by without someone around me referring to Karma. This shows up in just about every area of life. Whether it is your love life, work life, family life, it threads itself into your existence. Even those who are less spiritually inclined, refer to Karma. This is a concept that is deeply ingrained in our awareness. When I google the definition of Karma, this is what I get.
“The force generated by a person's actions held in Hinduism and Buddhism to perpetuate transmigration and in its ethical consequences to determine the nature of the person's next existence. Each individual is born with karma, the residual from past lives that must be resolved …”
Although this gives you a good idea of what Karma is, I feel it is somewhat outdated. Perhaps still too entwined with the self -persecution concept born from traditional religion. Now I must just add here, that this is my view. It is in alignment with the spiritual guidance I have received through my work and my own personal development. You are welcome to agree or disagree at any point.
Number One
So let’s start with the first thing you probably don't know about karma. It is widely used even by those who are not religious or subscribe to the Hindu or Buddhist religion. It has been used to control behavior for many years, if not centuries, I am sure.
Number Two
The second thing you might not know about Karma, is that Karma really is a thing and is completely unavoidable. I will explain this as we go along.
Number Three
Let me start with the third thing you may not know about Karma. Karma is actually the Universal Law of Cause and Effect. Now a universal law is a law that exists whether you believe it or not. Such as the sun will come up tomorrow. This law states that for every effect there has to have been a cause and every for every cause there is an effect. Neither one exists on it own, they are a package, so to speak.
I am sure you can see where I am going with this. When you catch yourself thinking or you hear someone saying “what have I done to deserve this karma?” or “I must have been a bad person to have to have this Karma”, it is partially true. I say partially, because when said in this way it is loaded with judgement and persecution. The reality is that when you experience an effect it is then that you need to ask yourself, what decisions have I made that have lead me to experience this? If you sit with this long enough I am sure you will find the path. THIS is where you take back your power and choose to make different and better decisions so that the effects you experience in your future, will be different. There is no judgement involved here, only observation and learning.
Number Four
The fourth thing you may not know about Karma is that Karma is also strongly tied to the Universal Law of Vibration. This law states that everything vibrates at a certain frequency and is constantly in motion. Energy/vibration never rests, it slows down, speeds up and changes form. "Like" frequency also attracts "like" frequency. Whatever the vibration of thought or deed is, will call in more of that unless a conscious effort is made to change the frequency. This is why you may come across those, or perhaps even yourself, who find yourselves in a position where you just keep getting more of the same “Karma” or effect.
Number Five
The fifth thing you may not know about Karma is that the vibration you vibrate at is linked to your values, which ultimately have their own moral standing. These are based not only from your exposure to others but also your own true compass. I have been asked the question “what if you unknowingly do something to someone that then creates negative karma?” The question I then ask is “did you act in alignment with your value system or against it?” If you are in alignment with your own truth the karma or effect will not be as loaded as if you acted out of alignment with your truth, vibration, values or what you know to be “moral”. Should you act out of alignment with your values, you can try to convince yourself of how just your actions were, but they will still remain out of alignment.
Number Six
The sixth thing you may not know about Karma is that the weight of your karma or degree of effect is manageable based on the conscious decisions you make. Knowing this, you can consciously make decisions based on and in alignment with your values. Thus reaping the benefits of lightly weighted negative karma and strongly weighted positive karma.
Number Seven
Lastly, the seventh thing you may not know about karma is that there is no particular time frame for karma or effect to take place. The effect will only present itself when all the “pieces” to the cause are aligned. This is why we seldom see someone experience karma or effect in the same way as the cause originally took place. The effect will be aligned with the vibration of the original intention behind the cause.
I hope you have a better understanding of Karma now. Go forward and have fun creating your “good” karma and allow everything to align with your unique vibration.
